What others are saying

August 12th, 2006

From Media Orchard, a blog by Idea Grove, a Dallas-based public relations firm: “We were also, surprisingly, the first to favorite Talking Biz News, even though it’s been around for a year now. The blog, a joint project of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers and the Carolina Business News Initiative, is administered by Chris Roush, a veteran business reporter who now teaches journalism at UNC.

“Talking Biz News is not only a good read for journalists; it’s a valuable tool for PR practitioners who want to better understand the issues and concerns that business reporters face in their jobs.”

From Don’t Eat the Shrimp, another blog for PR people: “A big part of our job is to stay on top of who is writing for what publications and what is going on in their world.

“This is a great resource from the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I also hear that they have a decent basketball team, but obviously no match for The Tigers.”

From Clifford Cumber, the business editor of the Frederick News Post in Maryland: “Not to toot our own horn … Well, OK, yes, to toot our own horn, the launch of Biz Blog was mentioned on Chris Roush’s blog, he of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.

“Now, I understand that’s pretty meaningless to the average reader, but Roush is the closest thing to a celebrity in the business journalism world. Making his Talking Biz News column is kind of like making Al Tompkins, or Romanesko.”

In September 2007, CurrencyTrading.net named Talking Biz News one of the “Top 100 Academic Blogs Every Professional Investor Should Read.”

Jessica Hupp wrote, “Academic economists and business bloggers have a lot to teach investors. Whether they’re professors, librarians, or students, they’ve devoted a significant part of their lives to developing a master understanding of their chosen field. Fortunately, they’re graciously willing to share their significant knowledge with you. Everyone’s equal here, but we’ve grouped them into categories so you can find what you’re most interested in.”

In October 2007, Bootstrapper.com named Talking Biz News one of “The 100 .edu sites every entrepreneur should read.

Jessica Hupp wrote, “Whether you’re an ivy-leaguer or a high school dropout, chances are you still have quite a bit to learn from others. Why not learn from the people who do learning best? Check out these .edu blogs and other informative sites for strategies, theory, and concrete resources for building and growing your business.”
