without comments

Welcome to Public Information Strategies Verbatim, a timely compilation of statements given by public information officers and officials in government and non-profits.  Verbatim is the online publication of the “Public Information Strategies (JOMC 491.1) Spring 2009 class at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  The purpose of the Verbatim is to highlight and study the role of public information dissemination in the United States and abroad.  This is a particularly interesting time to study public information and its importance in the perceptions of the government and its officials with the changing administration in Washington.

The Public Information Strategies class at UNC-CH is composed mostly of seniors in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, one of the preeminent journalism schools in the country.  The course focuses on the role of public relations professionals in the government and non-profit sectors.  Professor Napoleon Byars is the instructor for Public Information Strategies.
