Journalism jobs are out there
Tuesday, August 26th, 2008The job market for journalism grads has remained basically unchanged for the second half of 2007 and the first half of 2008, according to research done at the University of Georgia. The James M. Cox, Jr. Center for International Communication Training and Research reported that 63.3% of journalism graduates had full-time jobs within six months of graduation, compared to 64% the prior year.
Salaries are still low–but not lower–according to the report. The median salary for a journalism graduate is $30,000. A master’s degree raises that salary figure to $40,000. Nevertheless, just over 42% of graduates are “very satisfied” with their jobs. That satisfaction rate represents a 20-year high.
